The result, too often, is unnecessary tests and references, and in some cases unnecessary anxiety for doctors, patients and parents. Objectives After completing this article, readers should be able to:Recognise common clinical symptoms and signs of erythematous systemic lupus, dermatomyositis and scleroderma, and their distinction of common infectious micros. Recognize the evidence that can clarify the probability of a child having a rheumatic disease, including the limited utility of early serological tests for autoantibodies. Recognize the prognosis and management goals of these often chronic disorders, and practical steps to ensure excellent results. IntroductionThe timely and accurate recognition of collagen vascular diseases and the implementation of effective screening and referral processes for patients suspected of having a CVD remain difficult for many doctors. These are not primarily heritable disorders that affect collagen-containing structures, or vascular development disorders, but are immunically mediated inflammatory diseases. Immune goals vary, but inflammatory disease often affects tissues that contain collagen, including musculoskeletal system and many other tissues.
